Bobcats have many resting areas and they are not picky about where they sleep. If you see a bobcat hanging out in a developed neighborhood, notify animal control. Bobcats are nocturnal, meaning they sleep during the daytime and are active during the night.Bobcats wake up roughly three hours before sunset, hunt until midnight, and then go back to sleep. Animals that are active mostly in twilight are often called crepuscular. If you have water, throw or spray it at the bobcat. More specifically, they are most active in low light conditions, that is, dusk and dawn.Use your voice, bells, bash your camping pots and pans together, beat your hiking pole against a tree, blow the whistle on your backpack – basically whatever you have at your disposal. We know, this is hard, but it may provoke the bobcat into instinctively pursuing you. Keep facing it and back away slowly and deliberately to make space between you. Remember, you're a guest in their house, not the other way around. Since the hares are nocturnal, so are the cats. Respect all wildlife by keeping your distance. Canadian lynx live in dense forests where their main prey, the snowshoe hare, lives.
